Supplemental Programs
|
Saturday Programs -- Special seminars are offered on selected Saturday mornings throughout each semester. Students may register for any, or all, of these two-hour workshops to learn more about the wonderful and diverse world of music. Seminars are led by members of our highly-qualified faculty and include such subjects as history of the piano, introduction to opera, world beat (percussion instruments of the world), as well as many others.

Practice Partners -- Practice partners are a group of advanced students who are selected by their teachers to come to your home and help your child practice. These students are trained at the academy to assist you with common problems children face while practicing. They will help motivate your child, answer questions that arise after the lessons, demonstrate any difficult passages or techniques that students may be struggling with, and help develop good practice habits. These practice partners will be in contact with the teacher so that they know what each student is working on and what specifically they need help with. This program is designed for students who may need extra help outside their weekly lesson.

Honors Program -- Larchmont Music Academy offers a special honors program for students who are serious about music. Teachers may nominate students who demonstrate a profound talent and interest in music. These students will be invited to perform in special recitals and performances classes designed with their interests and abilities in mind. Every two years, students will perform in Carnegie Hall, New York City. Field trips to concerts and master classes around the area will be offered as part of this program during each semester.

Introduction to the Orchestra -- This is a series of concerts specifically designed for children ages three to eight. Informal concerts will teach children about the instruments of the orchestra one at a time. Children will hear music played by both faculty members and advanced students and learn about each instrument -- what makes the sound, how it is made, how it is played. This series will be an interactive and fun addition to the Kindermusik curriculum or private lessons, or it may be taken separately. |
